Law Firms Go East (Portland Business Journal)

Law Firms Go East (Portland Business Journal)

Desh Urs has a new take on outsourcing to India.

Urs, managing partner of Beaverton’s iBridge LLC, will hire 30 employees to connect U.S. corporations and law firms to India-based attorneys who can perform lower-level legal jobs.

The overseas lawyers won’t offer high-level legal advice that usually comes from partners. They instead perform discovery research, write boilerplate contracts and proofread documents. Companies who contract directly with Indian outsourcing firms pay between $25 and $40 for the work. Associate attorneys in this country earn about three times that amount.

Legal industry services provider expands employee numbers and facilities

BEAVERTON, Ore. – JUNE 10, 2010 – iBridge LLC, an information management and Business Process Outsourcing company serving the legal, healthcare, manufacturing and financial services industries, announced that it is expanding to a new facility in Beaverton and plans to add 30 new employees to service its legal clients.

The company’s growth is driven by the demand for outsourcing of legal industry support services such as early case assessment, information collection and management, hosting and document review. By providing qualified outsourced contract attorneys admitted to the bar in the U.S. and employees in India to supplement law firms and in-house counsel, iBridge helps enhance productivity and lower overall costs related to data heavy litigation and document review.

The new iBridge facility, a 12,000 square feet building located at 15725 SW Greystone Court, Beaverton, increases the company’s footprint and hosting capabilities and complements additional iBridge locations in Beaverton and New York. The new facility meets iBridge’s stringent security standards with 24-hour video monitoring, card access and a secured server facility.

This growth also allows iBridge to add 30 new legal experts in Beaverton to oversee the work of India-based attorneys, bringing the total worldwide iBridge employee count to approximately 550.

“iBridge has taken a cue from the outsourcing models in the technology industry and applied it to legal support services,” said Desh Urs, managing partner at iBridge LLC. “This solid combination of our legal expertise with contract attorneys and employees in the U.S. and offshore works seamlessly to reduce the cost of litigation and increase productivity by letting attorneys focus on the higher level strategy of their cases.”

“With this expansion we are able to increase our capabilities in hosting for managed document review, providing a secure and controlled environment with adequate flexibility to change scale and scope rapidly,” Urs added.
